Well Woman Exam Q & A
What is a well woman exam?
A well woman exam is an overall health exam of your reproductive health. Throughout the exam, Dr. Butter will discuss changes in your body or overall health and future life plan to determine the customized care plan best suited for you.
Regular check-ins also include the following as a baseline to check for common health conditions and risk factors:
-
Breast exam: A full visual and physical inspection of the breasts and breast tissue is performed to check for unusual lumps or bumps as well as any patient concerns. Women over the age of 18 should receive regular breast exams by Dr. Butter, as well as perform at-home breast examinations on themselves, to spot any noticeable changes over time.
-
Pelvic exam and pap smear: Dr. Butter will ensure patients are comfortable throughout each step of the exam, including a full pelvic exam and pap smear. A pelvic exam looks at the overall health of the vagina, uterus, and ovaries. This is essential to identifying and preventing various forms of ovarian cancers, STDs and other conditions impacting a woman's reproductive health.
